Prestbury Loft Conversion

The brief
This loft conversion in Prestbury doubled a single-storey bungalow into a full two-storey home – the owners wanted a proper new upper floor of bedrooms and bathrooms rather than move, keeping the plot and the location they loved.
What we did
Rather than carve rooms out of a cramped roof space, we removed the existing roof and added an entire new floor on top of the bungalow – designed, engineered and built in our North Yorkshire factory, then craned into place. This is the essence of a Moduloft: not a conversion of what’s there, but a whole new storey lifted on in a day. The new floor added three rooms and three bathrooms, lit by twelve VELUX rooflights and shaped by three dormers that carry full head height right across the plan. Once the structure was on and weathertight, the owners finished the exterior in a warm white render, tying old and new together into a single, coherent house. Because the build happened off-site, the family carried on living in the bungalow throughout.
The result
A modest bungalow transformed into a full two-storey family home – the footprint effectively doubled, three bedrooms and three bathrooms gained, without moving and without losing the plot they loved. It’s exactly what adding a floor to a bungalow is meant to deliver: proper ceiling heights throughout, built off-site in weeks rather than months, fully mortgageable and signed off by Building Control.
