The brief
This Macclesfield project gave a family three new rooms on a proper new floor – a loft conversion with a balcony you can genuinely step out onto (two of them, in fact), making the most of the light and the view.
What we did
Rather than convert the cramped space under the old roof, we removed it entirely and replaced it with a complete new floor – designed, engineered and built in our North Yorkshire factory, then craned into place in a day. Three pitched dormers give full head height and daylight right across the new storey, and the standout feature is the outdoor space: two roof-top balconies built into the design – a loft conversion with balconies you can genuinely step out onto, designed in rather than bolted on. Three rooms and a bathroom were laid out and first-fixed ready for finishing. This is what a new-floor build lets you do that a converted attic never could – a whole new storey rather than rooms carved from the roof void. Because the bulk of the build happened off-site, the family carried on living normally throughout.
The result
A genuine new floor with proper ceiling heights – three rooms, a bathroom and two private balconies the house simply didn’t have before, real usable outdoor space rather than a token Juliet rail. Built off-site while daily life carried on, the on-site phase was weeks rather than the months a traditional build would have meant, fully mortgageable and signed off by Building Control.
