The brief
This loft conversion in Macclesfield gave a family a private master suite at the top of their home – a proper master bedroom with its own dressing room, set on a whole new floor rather than carved out of the cramped existing roof.
What we did
Rather than convert the space under the old roof, we took the roof off entirely and replaced it with a complete new floor – designed, engineered and built in our North Yorkshire factory, then craned into place in a day. The new storey was finished with terracotta roof tiles and fibre-cement shiplap cladding for a warm, characterful exterior, with two rear dormers opening up full head height and daylight right across the suite. Inside, the space was given over to a generous master bedroom with its own dedicated dressing room – the kind of proper, private top floor you can only really get from a whole new storey rather than a converted attic. Because the bulk of the build happened off-site, the family carried on living normally throughout.
The result
A genuine new floor with proper ceiling heights – a private master suite with its own dressing room that the house simply didn’t have before, not a bedroom squeezed under a sloping roofline. Built off-site while daily life carried on, the on-site phase was weeks rather than the months a traditional build would have meant, fully mortgageable and signed off by Building Control.
