The brief
This loft conversion in Didsbury gave a homeowner the proper master bedroom they’d wanted – a calm, private top floor set above the rest of the house, with the full ceiling height and finish of a room that always belonged there, not a space carved out of the old roof.
What we did
Rather than convert the existing loft, we took the roof off entirely and replaced it with a complete new floor – designed, engineered and built in our North Yorkshire factory, then craned into place in a single day. A new staircase was formed and the floor below adjusted to receive it, so the new level sat naturally within the house. Being a smaller footprint, every bit of the space was given over to a single, generous master bedroom rather than squeezed into several cramped rooms. Because the bulk of the build happened off-site, the household carried on living normally throughout – it’s the same conventional construction as any home, just assembled in a factory rather than in the weather.
The result
A genuine new floor with proper ceiling heights – a private master bedroom the house simply didn’t have before, finished to the standard of a room that was always meant to be there. Built off-site while daily life carried on, the on-site phase was weeks rather than the months a traditional build would have meant.
